CIRI BC - State of the IR job market
Event Description
As IR professionals, we
are well aware that certain sectors have been hit very hard over the
last several years. The resource sector in particular, which employs
many BC CIRI members, has seen a tremendous amount of layoffs and
cutbacks at all levels. With that said, there is considerable strength
in other fields, such as the Biotech and Technology sectors. How do
these sector variations affect the IR job market?
Understanding
the landscape can provide clarity and confidence when looking for a new
opportunity. Join us as Mr. John Jennings, Senior Client Partner with
Korn Ferry's Vancouver office will provide an overview of the IR market
at a local, national and international level. The session will cover
what search companies are looking for in IR professionals and what we
can do to stand out and secure a position in today's market

Speaker
John Jennings, Senior Client Partner, Korn Ferry
John is a Senior Client Partner in Korn Ferry's Vancouver
office. Mr. Jennings has almost three decades of experience in the
Canadian and international financial services sectors, as chief
executive officer of a Canadian investment dealer and, thereafter, a
senior investment banker providing strategic advice, raising capital and
executing mergers and acquisitions, primarily for middle-market
companies. Immediately prior to joining Korn/Ferry he was the chief
operating officer with a privately held real estate development,
management and investment firm.
In addition to hands-on C-suite leadership experience, Mr. Jennings
offers his clients experience as a public and not-for-profit board
director. He currently sits on the Board of a publicly-listed company
and serves as the Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation
Committee.
Mr. Jennings is active in the community. He currently serves on the
Board of the Sovereign Order of St. John, Vancouver Commandery. He
previously served as a Director and Board Chair of both BC Cancer
Foundation and St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. In recognition of his
community work, Mr. Jennings was the recipient of a 2011 British
Columbia Community Achievement Award. A current member of World
Presidents' Organization, he served as the chairman of the British
Columbia Chapter for four years.
Mr. Jennings earned a master's in business administration from London
Business School in London, England, and a bachelor's degree in chemistry
from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. He also
holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
