Giorgia Anton, Managing Director and Head, Mining Strategy, Institutional Equity Research, CIBC Capital Markets
Giorgia Anton is a Managing Director and the Head of Mining Strategy in CIBC
Capital Markets’ Equity Research group. She is responsible for thematic research
and deepening the client impact of CIBC Capital Markets’ mining franchise. She
leads the mining research team, which provides coverage of over 50 companies
and of the supply / demand fundamentals for the commodities produced by these
companies. Giorgia has worked in Capital Markets for ~17 years, more than 11 of which
have been spent with CIBC. She has gathered a broad range of experience,
having worked in Canada and the U.S. and previously holding the role of Head,
Institutional Equity Sales New York. Giorgia is also a Co-Chair on CIBC’s Campus
Recruiting Committee. Georgia started her career at Ernst & Young as a Chartered Accountant, focusing
on global financial institutions and teaching several internal courses on Audit
Fundamentals, Broker Industry Specialty and Derivative Accounting Changes.
Outside of work, Giorgia has been a strong supporter of several charities and
held the position of Treasurer, Literacy Council York South for several years. Georgia holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation and a Bachelor
of Commerce from University of Toronto.
Maria Smirnova, MBA, CFA
Senior Portfolio Manager, Sprott Asset Management
Maria joined Sprott Asset Management LP as a Research Associate in May 2005, and was appointed Associate Portfolio Manager in February 2010, Portfolio Manager in March 2014 and Senior Portfolio Manager in May 2017. Maria is part of the precious metals team and manages Sprott Silver Equities Class, Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals Fund and the Sprott Hedge LP and LP II Funds.
Maria has over 16 years of experience in the financial services industry; she began her career at Excel Funds Management as Operations Manager, and subsequently worked in Product Development at Fidelity Investments.
Maria holds an MBA degree from the Rotman School of Management and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto. She has held her CFA designation since 2002.
Ali Qureshi
Director, Equity Sales, CIBC World Markets
Ali has been in Equity Sales at CIBC since May 2012 supporting a broad range of investors, ranging from traditional long only mutual funds to the newly launched long/short strategies as part of the liquid alts product initiative. Ali is engaged with his across the capital structure, but primarily focused on Canadian equities through in-house CIBC research, and US and International products through CIBC’s partnerships with Piper Jaffray in the US, Peel Hunt in the UK, Kepler Chevreaux in Europe, and CIMB in Asia.
Prior to joining CIBC, Ali started as an Equity Research Associate at UBS in February 2002 covering Consumer Industrials and Transports, before moving to Equity Sales in November 2004. Ali completed his CA and CFA designations after completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.
