Pierre Cléroux
Vice President, Research and Chief Economist

Pierre Cléroux was appointed Vice President, Research and Chief Economist at BDC in 2012. Pierre leads a team of experts who analyze economic data to identify business and sector trends impacting Canadian entrepreneurs. A seasoned speaker, he regularly travels across the country to help business owners understand the risks and opportunities presented by the economic environment. Mr. Cléroux is also responsible for providing economic analysis and advice to the Bank’s senior management team, and supervises all marketing and industry research activities. Over his 25-year career as an economist, he has held several influential positions that had a direct impact on entrepreneurs in Canada and abroad. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in Economics from Laval University, as well as an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Megan E. Greene
Managing Director and Chief Economist
Manulife Asset Management

Megan E. Greene is a managing director and chief economist at Manulife Asset Management, responsible for forecasting global macro-economic and financial trends and analyzing the potential opportunities and impacts to support the firm’s investment teams around the world. Previously, Megan ran her own London-based economics consulting practice, Maverick Intelligence, serving clients who leveraged her analysis of economic, political, policy and social developments and the impact these were likely to have on the global economy. Prior to Maverick, she was director of European Economics at Roubini Global Economics and the euro crisis expert at the Economist Intelligence Unit. Megan holds a BA in Political Economy from Princeton University and an MSc in European Studies from Oxford University (Nuffield College).

Eric Lascelles
Chief Economist
RBC Global Asset Management Inc.

Eric is the Chief Economist for RBC Global Asset Management Inc. (RBC GAM), Canada’s largest asset manager. He maintains the firm’s global economic forecast and advises its portfolio managers on key themes and risks. Eric is also a member of the RBC GAM Investment Strategy Committee (RISC), which is responsible for the firm’s global asset mix recommendations. Prior to joining RBC GAM, Eric spent close to a decade at another large financial institution. Before this, he was a Research Analyst at Statistics Canada. Eric holds a graduate degree in Economics from Queen's University as well as a Bachelor of Economics from Princeton University.

Dr. Avery Shenfeld
Managing Director and Chief Economist
CIBC

Avery Shenfeld is Managing Director and Chief Economist at CIBC, having been with the firm since 1993. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. One of the country’s most sought after commentators, he was ranked as the top economist in a recent survey of Canadian institutional equity investors. Avery follows economic developments and their implications for financial and asset markets. He has received multiple awards for forecast accuracy in Canada, and is a six time winner of the Dow Jones Market Watch award for most accurate forecaster of the US economy. His prior background includes experience in management consulting, on the economics faculty at the University of Toronto, and lecturing in the summer program at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has addressed numerous business groups and been quoted in the media in the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe.
