Michelle Gallant, Strategy & Engagement, Social Impact & Sustainability, Scotiabank
Michelle is the Director, Strategy & Engagement, Social Impact & Sustainability at Scotiabank in Toronto. In this role Michelle is responsible for overarching strategy and stakeholder engagement across Social Impact & Sustainability at Scotiabank and is the lead for the Bank’s Climate Change Centre of Excellence. Michelle started at Scotiabank in 2016.

Prior to Scotiabank Michelle spent over a decade working in London, United Kingdom in a variety of sustainability roles at Barclays and business-led charity Business in the Community. Before her shift into sustainability Michelle had a career in marketing communications, leading communications globally for the youth leadership organization AIESEC International, based in the Netherlands.

Michelle was selected to train with Al Gore to become a Climate Reality Leader in 2016. She holds a Bachelor of Honours degree in Mass Communication and Sociology from Carleton University in Canada, and a Strategic Sustainable Development course at the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden. Wesley Gee, Director of Sustainability, The Works Design Communications
Combining academic expertise with extensive professional experience, Wesley is the Director of Sustainability at The Works Design Communications in Toronto, Ontario. He provides guidance in stakeholder engagement, materiality and performance measurement, as well as ESG/sustainability communications and reporting to clients including BMO Financial Group, Manulife, Vancity, Maple Leaf Foods and Newmont Goldcorp. Wesley contributed to the development of the GRI Guidelines and served on sector working groups with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. He is a judge for CPA Canada’s Corporate Reporting Awards, faculty member of the The Conference Board of Canada’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Institute, and lectures for the MScSM and CSR Certificate programs at the University of Toronto. Before joining The Works, Wesley was a sustainability consultant at Stantec and advisor at the Canadian Business for Social Responsibility. He holds a Master’s in Sustainable Business from the University of Leeds.


Ani Markova, MBA, CFA, CDI.D, Portfolio Manager & Director
Ani is a Senior Executive with over 20 years of capital markets involvement experience with predominant focus on qualitative and quantitative financial analysis, capital allocation and marketing. She is an award-winning portfolio manager and has spent more than 15 years investing in the global mining sector and commodity markets while at AGF Investments Inc. Throughout her investment career, Ani has been engaged with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics and integration of such factors in investment decision-making processes. She has been an advocate for ESG material factors disclosures for corporate risk and opportunities management. Ani is currently an independent director of SilverCrest Metals Inc. and Golden Star Resources. She holds an MBA from George Washington University in Washington DC, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Canadian Investment Management (CIM) and Corporate Board International (CDI.D) designations.


Sabrina Dias, Founder and CEO, SOOP Strategies Inc.
Founder and CEO of successful mining and sustainability consulting firm, SOOP Strategies. Published author of “Integrating Sustainability into Major Project: Best Practices and Tools for Project Teams” (John Wiley & Sons Inc., New Jersey). Founding Board Member of the Circular Mining Association. Energetic and commercially minded mining and sustainability/ESG (environment, social and governance) advisor with extensive international experience, including Madagascar, Northern Canada, Pacific Islands, North and South America, and Tanzania. Expertise in mining mega projects with capex in the multi-billion dollar range, and small- and mid-size projects in all phases of mine life, including exploration, construction and operations. Trusted advisor to C-level executives and board members including ESG risks for acquisitions, complex sustainability risk management and government, community and indigenous relations. Sought after lecturer by prestigious universities including Queens University, University of Arizona and University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and Schulich School of Business.

Sabrina is a Licensed Professional Engineer of Ontario, has a Bachelor’s of Engineering, Master’s in Environmental Studies, Graduate Diploma in Business and Environment and is a Certified Board Candidate.
